ASHE SFL Scholarship Program

The South Florida Section of the American Society of Highway Engineers has the following scholarships available. Please note that it is not necessary to specify which scholarship you are applying for. Scholarships under this program are available for those students seeking a career in civil engineering.

As a recipient of a scholarship, it is important to note that you will be responsible for understanding and managing any financial and tax implications associated with this award. We encourage you to seek guidance from a financial advisor or tax professional to ensure you meet all necessary obligations and make the most of this valuable opportunity.

South Florida ASHE General Academic Scholarship

The award amount of this scholarship will be $1,300.

Eligibility

  1. GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  2. The applicant must be classified as a sophomore, junior, senior, graduate student; or in the second year of a two-year transportation industry related technical program.
  3. Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field.
  4. The applicant must submit a complete application. Recommendations and/or resumes may also be included but are not required.

Submission

A single scholarship application may be submitted by the applicant for consideration. The application can be downloaded using the link below. You will need Microsoft Word to complete the application electronically. Application must be received no later than Midnight October 31, 2025 (EST) to be considered.

Selection

All applications received by the deadline will be reviewed by the ASHE SFL Section. Scholarship(s) will be awarded at the next section event. Recipients will be notified of the date and location of the section event for the scholarship award. Attendance to receive and accept the scholarship ward is strongly encouraged. More details will be available at a later date.

Congratulations to the 2024 ASHE SFL General Academic Scholarship Winners!

The ASHE South Florida Section is pleased to announce the 2024 ASHE SFL General Academic Scholarship Winners. Two (2) $1,000 Scholarships were awarded to Engineering Students from Florida International University (FIU)! Our section proudly recognizes the two young women from FIU actively pursuing engineering degrees. Part of our mission is encouraging young engineers to venture into our industry, continuing to develop our workforce, and share knowledge amongst all professionals.

2024 ASHE SFL General Academic Scholarship Recipient – Yasmine Al Moghrabi!

Yasmine Al Moghrabi is a Ph.D. Candidate in Transportation Engineering at Florida International University. She holds two master’s degrees: a master’s degree in Road Safety Management and a master’s degree in Highway, Transportation, and Traffic Engineering where she stood out as the top-ranked student in her program. Yasmine’s impactful contributions to road safety advocacy and sustainable development goals have earned her global acclaim, including her selection as the Regional Youth Leader of Road Safety in North America and her recognition as one of the Remarkable Voices in Transport 2023.

2024 ASHE SFL General Academic Scholarship Recipient – Alejandra Ledesma!

Alejandra Ledesma was born and raised in Cuba. She moved to the United States and completed her high school education at Robert Morgan High School. She later received an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering from Miami Dade College. She then transferred to Florida International University (FIU), where she is finishing her bachelor’s degree with a focus in Transportation Engineering. Her long-term goal is to contribute to innovative and sustainable solutions in transportation that will serve our communities for the few years to come.
